penrith swimming club

Founded in 1881, Penrith Swimming Club is a community club with a learn to swim programme, competitive squads and a strong junior water polo section.

The club was originally based at Frenchfield, swimming in the river Eamont. Training sessions involved icy water, strong currents, weeds and the odd eel or two, providing the ultimate test of stamina. In 1931, Penrith Swimming Club held the world record for the largest swimming club, with 1,140 members.

It was all a far cry from conditions for today’s training sessions, held at Penrith Leisure Centre. With a membership of around 130, the pool provides the focus for the busy, highly active club.

Before SwimClub Manager, Penrith Swimming Club mostly used a paper-based filing system, with the occasional spreadsheet. Finding information was difficult, keeping spreadsheets up to date took a lot of work, and communicating with members often meant shouting messages to parents from poolside. The club website had also become outdated and could no longer be updated in the old system.

We asked the following questions:

On a scale of 1-5, as a result of Swim Club Manager, how easy is your club to manage?

What are the biggest benefits of Swim Club Manager?

  • Ease of use
  • All of our data is in the same place
  • It integrates with Hy-Tek and we can easily import and export Hy-Tek meet files
  • All members can have a login to manage their own personal data and keep it up to date
  • Club website
  • Attendance

After implementing SwimClub Manager, what benefits did you see with regards to managing your club?

Members gained access to their own accounts, making it easier to get codes of conduct signed and keep details up to date for club officials. Attendance is now completed every session instead of relying on a sign-in system swimmers often forgot.

It is much easier to communicate with swimmers through automatically populated mailing lists. The website is easier to maintain and update, and trial requests can be handled without waiting for paper copies in the post.

What specific feature of SwimClub Manager do you love most and why?

All of them. It makes the club much easier to organise, and they now have time for things they never used to get round to.
